From reborn Japanese hot hatches to all-electric future company staples and legendary British SUVs given a new lease of life, the Paris Motor Show had a number of notable new arrivals in 2016. Here’s TEN of our favourites
1. Honda Civic Type R Prototype
[See image gallery at www.crankandpiston.com]Holy crap! That was pretty much the reaction at the crankandpiston.com office when Honda dropped this sexy brawny beast into our laps. Based on the brand new Civic – which also made its debut in Paris – the Type R is a ‘close to production ready preview’ of Honda’s eminent hot hatch that will go on sale next year.
Technical details are still relatively hush hush, although Honda did hint that a fresh stab at the Nürburgring front-wheel drive production laptime record – currently held by the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S – isn’t too far down the road. It’s also been speculated that a 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder – producing somewhere in the region of 340bhp – could headline the engine options. Type R design cues meanwhile remain intact, including a whopping fixed rear wing, oversized air intakes, red bumper detailing and flared wheelarches. The new Civic base means the new Type R would also be 30mm wider, 20mm lower and 130mm longer than the current model.
